Southend Street Photography
Occasionally the Faces of London team ventures out of the big smoke to take some street photography elsewhere in the UK and world. Just take a look at our international efforts to know what mean – it’s a selection of our best work from LA, Rome and San Francisco. Last weekend Marco Fiori and Francesca D’Arcy visited Essex seaside town, Southend-on-Sea.
As we walked along the promonade we came across the characters one expects to find in a place like Southend: happy families enjoying the Spring sunshine, couples holding hands, content with their new love, old people simply getting some fresh air. The best portrait we managed to capture was of this old Asian woman picking shells on the beach. A few feet from her, she kindly stopped rummaging to allow us to capture her unknowingly.

More dramatic is the above man who’s engaged in parkor, the art of free running, 30 feet in the air. With impressive upper-body strength he held his pose as we drove past in the car. Death defying, everyone stopped and stared at his example of body strength. Truly impressive.
Finally we have a simple roadside seller of flowers. Trade’s rough at the moment, with little interest he’s forced to read his book to pass the time.
